LET’S PLAY TENNIS
Engineers and geoscientists play an important part in protecting the public, including designing safe toys and sports equipment for us to play with. Items like tennis rackets are engineered to be light but durable to help athletes play better. The strings are chosen and strung so that they have maximum impact when they hit the ball, but won’t break because of the force. What can you use to create your own tennis racket?
Design a tennis racket out of household objects and use it to hit a ball to a target, or another person!
Create a video showcasing the design and function of your tennis racket. Tell us about what obstacles you faced when you began building and how you improved your design and overcame these obstacles. This shows us your design thinking skills.
Upload this video to YouTube and email the link to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: Tennis Racket. In the email include the link to the video, as well as your name, age, and school.
You should use objects you can find around the house to create your racket (some examples are below).
You can use these or any other materials you find around your house to work with.
- Cardboard tubes
- Aluminum foil
- Plastic wrap
- Craft sticks
We will be picking our favorite, most creative video to be our winner of the week – you will receive a prize pack full of goodies!
