June 7- Public Notice

FREDERICTON, NB – June 7, 2024 The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) has suspended the license of Ms. Hélène Thériault, doing business as Ingénierie Match Engineering Inc., on May 10, 2024, following a Complaints Committee consideration of allegations of serious deficiencies in the design of multiple buildings, both constructed and under construction.

APEGNB took immediate action to ensure public safety by promptly contacting potentially impacted building owners, municipalities, and properties to inform them of the situation and advising them to undertake a review and implement any necessary measures to ensure the safety of the public.

“The priority of the Association is to protect the public, and we are working to support government authorities and building owners in identifying, independently investigating, and remedying any potential deficiencies in engineering work,” says Lia Daborn, CEO and Registrar of APEGNB.

“APEGNB commends the building owners, municipalities, and officials from the provincial government for their diligent efforts to ensure the safety of the public,” she explains further. “To date, we are advised that any deficiencies are being remedied.”

The disciplinary hearing, initially set for June 10, 2024, will not proceed as planned. Ms. Thériault’s legal counsel has agreed to facilitate this process without necessitating her attendance at the scheduled disciplinary hearing. Alternatively, APEGNB will review the collected files with the assistance of a subject matter expert to determine the next steps, which may include a future hearing.

APEGNB has also engaged an external investigator to review the known designs of buildings and structures associated with Ms. Thériault. The Association is awaiting the report from this investigation to further inform future actions.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and additional information becomes available.
